Meet Cale Ottens | The Strategist Driving Public Affairs at Echo Canyon Consulting
Background
Cale Ottens is a Senior Director of Public Affairs at Echo Canyon Consulting. He helps clients shape narratives, build coalitions, and advance policy goals that have real impact. With experience in journalism, campaign operations, and communications, he understands how message discipline and clear strategy move public opinion.
After earning his journalism degree from Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School, Cale began his career covering business and politics before stepping into the field himself in 2018. Since then, he has worked on mayoral, gubernatorial, U.S. Senate, and presidential campaigns, including President Trump’s 2020 reelection effort. His work on both the campaign and policy sides gives him a practical understanding of what it takes to win and what it takes to lead.
What drew him to politics was simple: participation. Cale has always valued the power of voting and the idea that people can directly shape their government. He brings that same belief into his work today—whether it’s helping an organization influence public policy or supporting an issue campaign that connects with voters where they are.
Work at Echo Canyon
At Echo Canyon, Cale focuses on helping clients stay engaged beyond election day. His work centers on connecting issues to the people they affect, earning trust, and keeping clients involved in the conversations that shape outcomes. He believes effective public affairs work bridges the gap between campaign energy and long-term policy results.
He often says that campaigns end, but the work doesn’t. For Cale, that’s what makes public affairs meaningful—the opportunity to keep good ideas moving forward after the votes are counted. He values the consistency and depth of the work, where results come not just from messaging, but from relationships, patience, and persistence.
Community
Cale is active in the Phoenix Arcadia Rotary Club, where he served as president, and at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where he is a Eucharistic minister. Originally from Kansas City, he’s loyal to the Chiefs and Royals and follows ASU sports closely.
Outside of work, he’s grounded by community and service. Those commitments remind him why he entered politics in the first place—to stay engaged, give back, and help make institutions work better for the people they serve.
Cale brings a steady and realistic approach to his work. He believes good politics is rooted in integrity, accountability, and common sense. For him, success means advancing sound policy and helping responsible leaders earn the opportunity to serve.
